Sandfire Dragons

Sandfire Dragons are part of the Bearded Dragon family and they get their name from the color of their skin. That color can range from a pale translucent with faint orange to brilliant hues. What many people don’t realize is that if you go to pick out a Beardie that’s not yet an adult and are told the Beardie is Sandfire, you’ll have to take the seller’s word for it. The colors on the Beardies will not show up until they grow out of their younger days. It’s also more difficult to tell whether or not the younger dragons are male or female.

Many dragons are chosen specifically for their colors and the coloring does depend mainly on the breed of Bearded Dragon that’s chosen. You might be surprised at the choices of Beardies that are available but if you want a younger Beardie, remember that ones that haven’t yet reached four months of age do tend to succumb easier to mishandling and inappropriate living conditions. So if you’ve never raised Beardies before, you might want to start out with an older dragon.

Remember that even though all of these Beardies could technically be labeled as sandfire,
many Sandfire Dragons are cross bred in order to get their colors and so the pigmentation of the skin will vary. Some will be lighter while others will be darker. In order to make sure you’re getting the exact color dragon you want, you may want to check out a breeder’s stock before you commit to a purchase. You should be able to see what Beardies are there on hand and take a look at photos of juveniles that have reached maturity. Your best defense in selecting a dragon is to ask plenty of questions and be wary of sellers who don’t have answers.
