Breaded Dragons

Have you ever wondered how Breaded Dragons get their unique name? They get their name from the way they make their throats expand to look like a beard. It’s not actually a beard of course. What happens is when the dragon pokes out his throat, little spikes stick out and give him the appearance of having a beard. This action isn’t done just for random effect. The throat puffing is a way for the lizard to make himself heard. In other words, just as people give off non verbal clues to what they’re thinking or feeling inside, the dragon also does the same. Hence, the beard showing up at various times.

This is just one way that Breaded Dragons get their message across to one another and to humans as well. If you spend any time at all studying your pet, you’ll soon be able to understand what he’s trying to tell you. When they’re sticking out their tongues, that can be a sign that they’re wanting to know more about their surroundings. But if their tongue is out and is doing a dog type panting, that can be a sign that you’ve got them in an area where it’s too hot or their cage is too warm and you need to take immediate action if you notice them doing it that way.

Breaded Dragons will also communicate by waving their front legs around or by bobbing their heads. While some lizard owners think that head bobbing means the dragon is trying to communicate dominance, this is not the case every time your lizard bobs his head. By the same token, waving the front arm around does not always mean your pet is trying to show submission. Once you’ve had your dragon for a while, you’ll soon be able to decipher what he’s trying to say by the signs he shows you.
