Bearded Dragon Setup: How to Set Up a Beardie’s Habitat

A Bearded Dragon setup always begins with housing. Having adequate room for your Beardie, especially if he’s already grown means you cannot get housing for him that’s smaller than 40 gallons. He won’t be happy with a boxed in feeling and neither will you when you’re having to shop all over again for a new enclosure. Once you get his housing, next you’ll need to make sure you have a screen top for it. You want him to stay in the cage and not get out where he can get hurt if you’re not around. The reason you don’t want to use a solid cover is because it can change the living conditions inside the cage by making it too humid.

Next for your Bearded Dragon setup is a lighting source. Light is imperative for their health and well being since it helps them to make a necessary vitamin within their body. Make sure they cannot get burned on the light by getting too close. They also need a heat source so that they can bask. By the same token, they need a side of the cage to help them keep their cool.

So in the Bearded Dragon setup, you’ll want to place two thermometers. One on the side of the enclosure where he basks and the other thermometer on the side where he goes to chill out. Monitoring both sides of your Beardie’s home is important because swings in temperatures-too hot or two cold-can make him sick or worse.
