Bearded Dragon Crickets
If you’re not sure what to feed your Bearded Dragon, crickets are always a good idea. Sounds kind of disgusting if you’re not a bug person but you have to give the little fellow what he would eat if he were able to roam free outside. Insects happen to be a major staple on a Beardie’s menu plan. Before you think that you can just go outside and catch your pet’s daily quota of insects and put them in the cage, hold on a second. You don’t know where those insects have been or what they’ve been exposed to. If those bugs have come in contact with any kind of yard pesticide at all, they can get it coated on their shells, on their legs etc. Then once you feed them to your lizard, your exotic pet will then have downed traced amounts of pesticide and you don’t want that to happen.
For a Bearded Dragon crickets are actually one his more preferred meals. Though he must have a selection of food items ranging from vegetables to fruits, he has to have the protein in the insects in order to remain healthy and active. The best bet for finding crickets for your Beardie is to buy them in bulk from a local supplier and keep them on hand.
